I'm beyond frustrated with uplinkearth. They are history... I'm too angry to even write about it. After MANY years of good service... last year started the spiral downhill at 60 miles an hour. My wish for them would be to lose every customer they have. They deserve that much.

Yeah, the system is broken. But we need to look at *why* it's broken before we just throw money at it. It used to be that insurance was only for catastrophic things like needing to get your leg amputated. Now with doctors needing 4 or 5 different kinds of insurance to protect themselves from the sue-happy idiots out there, they have to charge more and insurance picks that up. Kind of ironic that insurance pays for insurance. Now, don't pigeon-hole me and put me in the camp that thinks the current situation is good: it's not. But, like diagnostic medicine these days, people aren't looking at the *cause* of the problem, only the symptom. How do we decrease medical costs AND keep doctors from losing money? I don't have a solution, but I agree with you that we have to stop the shouting (from both sides) and start looking for a solution that doesn't just put a band-aid over the problem.

[...] A while ago, I wrote a post about SCHIP and Health Insurance. This was a general reaction to something Paul Krugman wrote, whom I respect and admire—but whose information (like pretty much everything else out there) I don’t take for granted.
Hi Glenn,

Yeah, I think I would agree with you; the issue for me was definitely more with DarwinPorts than pngcrush itself.

Thanks for finding this old-ish post though ;)

I am the author of pngcrush. I think your complaints are really with the downstream packager of DarwinPorts, not with the pngcrush author.

'“cd opt/local/bin/portslocation/dports/pngcrush” is what you are told,'

That instruction is nowhere in the upstream pngcrush distribution.

Thanks for persisting with the installation, though.

Yeah, I didn't really have a choice (my girlfriend prefers CNN), but I hear you: PBS the next time.

(And yeah, I think "Brokaw" is the correct spelling.)

I felt the same way when I saw the Obama-McCain debate on CNN. They're getting a little too smug about this whole "most trusted news" on television thing. I saw the Biden-Palin debate on PBS - which was much much much better. No gimmicks, just the debate. After the debate, Tom Brokaw (sorry, don't know how to spell his name, too lazy to find out) spoke with some historians and some experts about what was said and the significance of it. It was actually a little insightful (although, i didn't stay to watch the whole thing). I guess what I'm trying to say is watch the next on PBS.

I started on CNN HD, and the CNN value add crapturned me off as well...so I switched to Fox where it wasn't in HD, but just showed the debaters with no additional network commentary or data.
